Rarely seen footage from summer of 2001: At a political values forum, Congressional representative [ name not given] called then President Bush, not a year into his new term in office, an “enemy of humanity.”
Conservatives went nuts.
Actually, we made that up. What we are not making up, at least, reportedly, is this real news:
A Republican member of the House of Representatives [Trent Franks - AZ] accused President Barack Obama of being “an enemy of humanity” during a conservative values forum this past weekend.
Franks is certainly entitled to his opinion, as out there and wildly biased and partisan as it is. But what would have been the reaction from the President’s side of the ticket had a Democratic Congressman called President Bush an “enemy of humanity” back before his term had been even a year in?
But what Franks said, was actually worse. He also appears to be an avid Glenn Beck listener (emphasis added):
Obama’s first act as president of any consequence, in the middle of a financial meltdown, was to send taxpayers’ money overseas to pay for the killing of unborn children in other countries,” said Frank. “Now, I got to tell you, if a president will do that, there’s almost nothing that you should be surprised at after that. We shouldn’t be shocked that he does all these other insane things. A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can’t do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity.
Franks was apparently referring to Obama’s abortion policies. “Oh.”
Meanwhile, Representative Alan Grayson said that the “Republicans health care plan is to 1) not get sick, 2) if you do get sick, 3) die quickly.” [We suppose, to spin it a little for Grayson, who otherwise stirs up some good issues, that he means for those who have no money nor means to pay for what is normally reverse subsidized care if one elects to and pay it oneself.]
This is pretty hard hitting, and a bit of hyperbole and spin, no doubt. But still, we don’t even think it is in the same ballpark as what Representative Franks said. And Republicans aren’t pleased with the Congressman. But which Congressman; Grayson, or Franks?
Grayson, of course, and are calling for a resolution of admonishment, if Grayson does not apologize.
Just like Republicans called for resolutions of admonishment for saying that the President of the United States, and others, wanted to “pull the plug on” (that is, in effect, purposefully cause the death of) “Granny”!!
Ooops. Not.
