The World in Black and White (Semi Alice in Wonderland View)
Posted by admin - 17/09/09 at 03:09 amTh entertaining quote just below, is filled with all sorts of misleading and very, well, either manipulative, or simply uniformed, spin — which is of course what the far right does best. As well as of course break things down into Black and White, even if that Black and White has little to do with reality.
But this black and white has a moment or two of truth in it, and is pretty funny. (Clearly intentional on the part of the author, which is a good thing.) What makes it the most interesting, is that the few parts that are not completely off the wall, are the funniest (well, except for the pooh flinging part — that’s pretty funny too.) They have to do with political perceptions — something Democrats are very bad at, um, perceiving. Which is too bad, because, well, perceptions and perceiving, go hand in hand.
Of course Democrats have their own perceptions. But do they perceive those of others?
One might ask the same question of Republicans. Or, we should say, the far right, since actual true Republicans are a dying breed today. But Republicans, or one should say the far right (let’s leave Republicans out of this altogether, and classify the far right separately), don’t have to see any other perceptions. They sell, and show. Selling and showing does not rely upon perceptions of political opponents, but of everyday Americans, who are not exhaustively politically active; and it relies, even more, upon the ability to tap into the possibility of what people might feel, if properly shown, and led there. (Something Democrats are quite terrible at doing, the Right is quite good at doing, and Democrats are quite oblivious to recognizing.)
When Republicans perceptions are tapped into, not being the lying, cheating, evil scoundrels that many on the web of the other party’s ilk make them out to be, they are usually pretty receptive to ideas. (Were this blog/website to have any notice at all, the blogosphere would be all abuzz with that radical, and to them, obviously absurd notion. “Republicans receptive to ideas? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha…..” Since Democrats are not so good at showing, and selling (or even perceiving the need, or what this means), we think this is not the best attitude to have.
Still, it persists.
A gem from someone from the far right, who is absolutely convinced he is spot on correct. (While ”liberals” do their very darndest, without even realizing it, to continue to try and convince him and others, of this fact, while needlessly losing a great deal of the middle of the country that might very well be on their side on several key issues. But, we hasten to add, not health care until someone can actually both explain it, and understand the need to do so.)
Without further ado:
The liberals were crazy angry while George W. Bush was president. Part of it was that for a time after 9/11, they were made completely irrelevant — when people are dying, who is going to listen to a liberal?
But another part of it is that it’s much easier to hate a person than to hate a concept — like conservatism. So they were able to channel all their hate into President Bush. And they were jumping-around-pooh-flinging-biting-each-other angry. I think a number of conservatives were secretly looking forward to the Obama presidency in hopes that liberals might just calm down a little. Maybe they’d even consider supporting the troops in their war efforts for a change. At least, maybe they would be a bit less angry.
Big miscalculation.
Now conservatives have more reason to be angry these days, with liberals in charge and all the spending and government takeovers. But with Democrats having complete control of the government, you’d think liberals could be dismissive of conservatives and be calm themselves. But no, they’re still crazy angry. Maybe even angrier than before. Biting-fingers-off angry. They’re screeching about how all the people opposed to Obama are racists and neo-Nazis and stupid, and they’re using sexual slurs against protesters and boycotting everyone who disagrees with them. They’re still nuts, but why?
See things from their point of view. The most fundamental principle liberals have is that they are all very, very smart, and everyone should listen to them. Nothing angers them more than something that challenges them to reexamine that core tenet. And that’s why they were so delighted by the election of President Obama and further wins in the House and Senate. For a moment they thought the American people had recognized liberals as their superiors and said to them: “Please! Smart people! Lead us and tell us what to do!”
Now that is some funny stuff. We went off script recently to try and be humorous, and invoked gay fish. (Not without taking a well deserved shot at Glenn Beck, the same person whom the above poster rather not hilariously suggests is simply “disagreeing” with people.) And this poster did it without even citing David Letterman!
But by the way, don’t let it slip by unnoticed, however, how “crazy angry” liberals were (all that biting each other, pooh flinging, and cursing on the Internet and stuff) relative to the conservatives “who have more reason to be today” and yet by implication are hardly at all!
Well, not necessarily these conservatives. But then, playing right into the poster’s parody above, they’re all fairly well educated.
